Keeping Pace with Changing Driving Habits
It may be time to switch to CAA MyPace®, the only pay-as-you-go auto insurance payment program in Canada for low-mileage drivers.
It wasn’t long ago that the most predictable part of your week was driving: to and from work, to and from social activities, and extended trips to see family members. But few things have undergone as much radical change in the last few years as personal driving habits. From remote working, career and life stage changes and rising costs associated with driving, many Canadians are changing their driving patterns.
As Canadians age, the costs associated with driving tend to drop with less wear and tear on vehicles. Fewer school or work commutes can also reduce maintenance costs. Many Canadians are changing their driving behaviours to save on gas and avoid car repairs, and even downsizing vehicles due to financial considerations.
However, for many Canadians, especially those in rural areas, owning a vehicle remains a necessity due to limited access to public transit and essential services being out of walking distance. As driving patterns evolve, it’s crucial for car insurance options to adapt accordingly.
Keeping pace with changing driving habits.
Car insurance is essential for every driver in Canada. As our driving behavior becomes more flexible, it makes sense that insurance options should too.
Auto insurance generally requires renewal every year, with infrequent adjustments to the policy. And while your driving pattern adjustments and lifestyle changes may seem small, over time they can add up significantly. The insurance policy that suited your daily routine and budget years ago may be completely out of sync with what you need today.
Introduced in 2018, CAA MyPace® is Canada’s only pay-as-you-drive auto insurance payment program. It’s perfect for drivers who are occasional drivers, the cost savings could be substantial.
Here’s how it works:
- Once you enroll, you pay a base rate to protect your car while it’s not being driven, and purchase road coverage in 1,000 km increments as you drive.
- As part of your enrollment, you will receive a separate package with your CAA MyPace device including the easy-to-follow installation instructions.
- Once the CAA MyPace device is installed in your vehicle, you can monitor your kilometre usage at any time by logging in to your CAA MyPace account online by clicking here and/or via the CAA MyPace mobile app.
- You will also receive notifications as you approach the end of your current 1,000 km increment, then we will automatically reload your next 1,000 km to ensure you’re always protected.
- The data captured will not be used to increase insurance premium rates or monitor driver’s movements. It is only being used to allow customers to monitor their mileage. And if you don’t use up your 1,000 km, your remaining kilometre balance will just carry over to your renewal term.
Plus, CAA Members save up to 20%¹ on CAA MyPace® low rates, so it can be worthwhile to switch—even mid-term. And, should your driving needs increase, CAA MyPace policyholders can always switch to traditional CAA Auto Insurance without penalty or fees.
